Load Combinations to AS1170.0

Verified by the CalcTree engineering team on October 22, 2024

This calculator evaluates the load combinations to AS1170.0 for ultimate and serviceability limit states, which includes the dead load, live load, wind load and earthquake load.
All calculations are performed in accordance with AS1170.0-2002.

Calculation

Assumptions

  1. The input and output data is unitless, so that any unit can be used as long as the user inputs consistent units.

1. Properties

1.1. Design Actions

As per section 1.5 of AS1170.0, actions on a structural element have the following notation:
  1.

Permanent action, self-weight or 'dead' action
  2.

Imposed ('live') action, due to occupancy and use
  3.

    Ultimate wind action
  1.

    Serviceability wind action
  1.

    Ultimate earthquake action
  1.

    Serviceability earthquake action
  1.

Action for snow, liquid pressure, rainwater ponding, ground water or earth pressure, where appropriate to the design situation

Note: the ultimate and serviceability wind and earthquake actions vary in the recurrence interval (or annual exceedance probability) used to determine them.

1.2 Short-term, long-term and combination factors

As per table 4.1, the factors,

depend on the distributed imposed actions

. These values vary based on the type of imposed action, such as those applied to floors, roofs, or other structural elements. The user should select the combination factors appropriate for their design.

2. Ultimate Load Combinations
