CalcTree benefits: increase efficiencies

Engineers spend an average of 33% of their time on what we call "non-value added work".
How engineers spend their time [source]

Out of this 33%, 53% is spent on manual data handling tasks - this is about 1.5 hours daily! Manual data handling includes all the manual tasks associated with managing data, including searching for or recreating data they cannot find.

This slows down projects and makes design optioneering a time-consuming and error-prone process. Of course there is business value in reducing this non-value-added work.

CalcTree lets you run quicker iterations by linking data between calculation components and 3rd party platforms.

Here is a list of features in CalcTree that increase the efficiency of your calculation workflows:
  1. Link data flows across calculation components (aka calculation pages or templates) and then re-use them, saving the need for manual data handling such as such as moving data between tools or updating values. Previously, if you duplicate a project schema in a network drive you need to go into each file and update the values. With CalcTree, once the links between calculation components are made, they remain intact when you duplicate.

  1. Use CalcTree logic in 3rd party apps to establish workflows that speed up design optioneering. For example, we can use the ductility check in CalcTree's Beam Designer to iterate over values of beam depth in Python until it passes. See video below.
Here's a video showing how to design optioneer using CalcTree and Python

  1. Use 3rd party apps to execute a calculation in CalcTree, to establish workflows that automate design updates. For example, we can use geometry of a column defined in Rhino/Grasshopper as input values to perform a capacity check in CalcTree's Column Designer. [Testing coming soon 2024]
  1. Create parameters with formulas directly, which enables last-mile customisation while keeping the integrity of the source in tact. Quick adjustments to a page are made easy with CalcTree's native parameters. For example, a utilisation ratio for compression can be added to the bottom of a column designer page.
