Electric Motor Torque Calculator

Welcome! This page will allow you to perform an electric motor torque calculation using motor speed and specified power rating. Motor torque, speed and power are directly related and are some of the most important considerations when selecting a motor.
Calculating the speed and torque will give you an important design parameter when selecting a motor.

Explanation

The torque output of a motor is the amount of rotational force that the motor develops. Torque is generated differently for different motors (DC, induction, synchronous). See the list below for an explanation of how torque is developed for each type of motor.

Torque Generation

Motor torque can be calculated directly using the motor speed in RPM and the specified power rating.

T=602π∗P∗1000NmT = \frac {60}{2\pi} * \frac { P*1000} {Nm}
Where

T=Torque (Nm)P=Power Rating (kW)Nm=Motor Speed (RPM)T = Torque \: (Nm) \\ P = Power \: Rating \: (kW) \\ Nm = Motor \: Speed \: (RPM)
